Box Enables IT Transformation for Leading Healthcare Organizations

Company adds new product capability and platform partner to improve care coordination

HIMSS15

LOS ALTOS, Calif.--()--Box (NYSE: BOX) today announced new healthcare customers, viewing capabilities for medical images such as X-rays and CT Scans and a partnership with Carebox, a digital health company that aggregates patient medical records and makes them viewable and shareable in Box.

“Collaboration and the need for cross-enterprise file sharing is on the rise due to the move from fee-for-service to value-based models of care,” said Missy Krasner, Managing Director, Healthcare and Life Sciences, Box. “Box continues to differentiate itself in this vertical by adding new capabilities, such as being able to store and view X-rays as well as working with partners who leverage Box APIs to aggregate medical records and other clinical data from disparate sources.”

New Customers

Since announcing Box for Healthcare at the company’s annual customer conference, BoxWorks, in September 2014, Box has seen continued momentum in the healthcare and life sciences vertical. New customers include Zephyr Health, Inc., Dignity Health, MedAmerica, Providence Anesthesiology Associates, Impax Laboratories, LI-COR Biosciences, Aspen Pharmacare Holdings Limited, Exact Sciences Corp., AlphaImpactRx and Cystic Fibrosis Trust. These new customers join hundreds of other innovative organizations -- such as MD Anderson Cancer Center, St. Joseph Health, Mount Sinai Health System, Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason, Boston Scientific and Ely Lilly -- in using Box to manage and secure critical information, coordinate care, and streamline research in the cloud.

“There’s a remarkable opportunity to improve the way information is captured, managed and shared between doctors, patients and institutions," said Rich Roth, Chief Strategic Innovation Officer at Dignity Health. “Our technology solutions must keep pace with the industry’s ever increasing needs for securely sharing information. Moving to a technology like Box enables us to provide our employees with a secure and simple way to better collaborate internally and externally with the people they do business with everyday.”

Medical Image Viewing

In the fall, Box acquired MedXT, a leader in cloud-based medical image sharing to better serve the growing number of hospital, health insurance and life sciences companies on its platform. MedXT's technology addresses a key hurdle to interoperability and care coordination in healthcare by allowing imaging studies (DICOM files) to be stored, viewed and shared securely in the cloud. Last week, Box announced the first phase of supporting the DICOM format in the Box platform - DICOM image preview, for all users, for free. Patients can now upload medical images such as an X-ray, a CT scan, or an MRI into Box and view them on the web or from a mobile device.

Partnership with Carebox

As part of its developer efforts, Box also announced an integration with Carebox, a cloud-based healthcare company built on top of the Box platform. Carebox makes it easier for hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and payors to aggregate structured, clinical data in medical records and make it viewable and shareable in Box. This new integration allows Box to interface with electronic health record (EHR) solutions and patient portals for the purpose of collaborating on patient data using government approved industry standards. Carebox supports CDA/CCD storage and viewing as well as Direct messaging protocols for transport.
