Los Altos, CA: Top Attractions

At the southern end of the San Francisco Bay Area, is Los Altos, a sunny haven filled with a plethora of things for tourists and locals to do. Los Altos, CA is one of the more majestic areas of California. With beautiful summer cottages and a location near the famous Stanford University, people from across the country come to visit this friendly city throughout the year.

Shopping is a popular pastime in the city. Los Altos has several districts with varied stores and shops. The downtown area one of the most popular shopping districts, filled with small businesses and lined with sellers of popular merchandise. Downtown also regularly features events, such as the Los Altos Farmers’ Market, Friday Movie Nights, the Art and Wine Festival and the Holiday Stroll.

The Los Altos History Museum is another major attraction in the area. This impressive, three-story museum resides in the orchards of the Santa Clara Valley. The Los Altos History Museum features galleries and exhibits exploring California's past. Admission is free. Another top thing to see is right near the museum. The J. Gilbert Smith History House features period decor and Craftsman-style elegance. The area has gardens and is located on the last active apricot orchard in the Santa Clara Valley. The house was built in 1905 and includes many Craftsman-style elements. The décor has been set to embody the common style during this period and delights many visitors with a look at simpler times. This area also has gardens to explore, including the apricot orchard and man massive oak trees. You can find the museum at 51 S San Antonio Road.

The Los Altos Civic Center is also worth visiting. A premier sports facility for the whole family, the civic center hosts a number of sporting events, including soccer, football and hockey. In an effort to best serve the community, the city plans on revamping the center. Plans include improving city hall, the police station and the Los Altos Senior Center, which is located in the old Hillview School. The plan to upgrade the civic center hinges on public approval. The Los Altos Civic Center is located at 1 N. San Antonio Road in Los Altos.

The Los Altos Shoup Park is named after the “father of Los Altos”, Paul Shoup, who founded the town in the early 20th century. Full of green vegetation and trees, the park is a great place for families and friends to enjoy picnics and for little ones to play. With great picnic areas and room to run around, the park is the perfect spot for enjoy Los Altos’ fantastic weather. Spanning 3.7 acres and with Adobe Creek in the backdrop, it is a worthy spot for family fun. The Los Altos Underground Teen Center also is located here. The teen center has games, such as air hockey, video games and basketball. It’s a safe place for teens to gather and hang out. Shoup Park is located at 400 University Avenue in Los Altos.
